If you don’t get the e-mails from HMGS I wanted to tell you a little bit about the new HMGS Vanguard program.  In an attempt to grow the hobby and the organization HMGS is looking for volunteers who are willing to run programs at various events.  The program is currently open to members in Virginia, North Carolina, Deleware and Maryland.  The first event that they requested assistance with is Samicon a pop culture convention held at the Samuels Public Library in Front Royal Virginia on 09/14/2019. 

The description from the library is: “Join us for a day of fantasy fun at the 2019 SamiCon, Samuels Library’s own pop culture convention. This year’s theme “One Card to Rule Them All…” Come and enjoy a Lord of the Rings theme event in costume, experience our Makerspace, view demonstrations and performance throughout the day, make some fun crafts and visit the vendors onsite for the day.”

I have decided that since I have a required day off due to me at work I’d volunteer and take my boys with me.  I’ll be running Arena Games, a 28mm hex-based gladiator game.  I reached out to Brian Whittaker, HMGS Legend and all around good guy, and he was gracious enough to join me.  Brian will be running two of his Old Glory Boat games.  We will be on site from 10:00am – 4:00pm.  I have never been to this event but if you are looking for a trip out to the country and to play a few games come join us!

Oh and if you are traveling West on I-66 be sure to stop off at the Apple House in Linden for some delicious Apple Cider Doughnuts.  I’m not saying I can be bribed but doughnuts may equal re-rolls. . . . https://www.theapplehouse.net/Donuts

Edit: It looks like this program doesn’t exist anymore, possibly another victim of COVID. HMGS still does outreach programs though. At the time of this data transfer the new HMGS page hasn’t gone live so I can’t provide any links.
