Last weekend was SamiCon, a local convention at the Samuel’s Library in Front Royal Virginia. This is pop culture convention that has all sorts of things going on. There was a large section dedicated to STEM, there were cos-players, local artisans, crafts for kids and local vendors, including a cross fit box. Most importantly to us was there was gaming to be had! I went as part of HMGS’s Vanguard program where I ran Arena Games Gladiator game. There were at least six other games including Brian Whitaker’s Limeys and Slimeys, Blood and Plunder put on by Mitch Reed of No Dice No Glory fame, Bolt Action and a a number of games by ODGW, including Mein Zombie. Kenny Noe of ODGW coordinated the war gaming portion on behalf of HMGS and he did a bang up job. We were told this was the most war games they ever had at SamiCon and the games constantly had people playing. I was very impressed at the amount of people of all ages playing war games for the first time!
