Throwback Thursday – WNPG Fathers Day Extravaganza!

The post was originally published on the HMGS site on June 28, 2019.

One of my regular gaming groups meets on Sunday evenings for gaming and dinner. (Wednesday Night Painting Group, or WNPG for short. Apparently we used to do more painting than gaming and met on Wednesday’s but I digress.) We were discussing our Fathers Day plans when one of the guys suggested we get the kids together for some games. We decided to push the meeting time from 5 to 2 and scheduled some family gaming. We played The Last Kid on Earth, based on Mein and a Panzer Kids game with tanks painted up as animals. The kids enjoyed The Last Kid on Earth, even if they did all wander away for the last twenty minutes! We managed to beat the game and everyone survived. For now! Panzer Kids was run on the same board as Mein Zombie by one of the guys son who is middle school aged. He has run kids games at the HMGS cons before and he did a great job running this game. This let us Dads enjoy a few minutes of libations and hanging out uninterrupted. Growing the Hobby is very important to me and I’m glad I’ve been able to get our kid involved. We had 6 kids, 5 boys and 1 girl, who all had a great time. I’m looking forward to making this a group tradition!

Edit: All I can say is wow. Time really flies by. One of these kids has just graduated Army basic training, one is in high school, and the rest go to High School next year. It’s true what they say, the days are long, but the years are short.
