I’d like to invite everyone to join in on the crazy fun of the Iron Paintbrush at Historicon this year. The Iron Paintbrush made it’s triumphant return at Historicon last year and saw two teams facing off for glory! Well maybe not glory, but lots of cool prizes!
If you’ve never seen or heard of Iron Paint brush try to imagine The Iron Chef, only for gaming. The Hobby University Staff gives each team a theme, a set of paints, brushes, glues and other random assorted items and the teams strive to assemble the most creative representation of the theme in the allotted time. Sounds easy right? Well the Hobby U team will be sure to throw some curve balls at you giving you the chance to win extra points or get additional benefits such as extra time or extra colors.
Last year Da’ Bearcats edged out Team Carl in Battle:Tent! The highlight for me was when both teams were offered the opportunity to sing a lullaby to two six year old’s for extra points and Da’ Bearcats sang their college fight song in a soft, but terrible, melody. Great job guys!
The three piece vignette was painted and assembled by Da’ Bearcats and the bar was painted and assembled by Team Carl.

We will be hosting the Iron Paintbrush again this year, Saturday night at approximately 8:00pm. Grab a team of three and join in the fun! If you can’t get a full team we will keep a roster of ringers who we will try to and find a team to join!

Edit: While I was talking about hosting the Iron Paintbrush again “this year” I was referring to Historicon 2019, but we are hosting it again this year, 2026! I hope to see some of you there!
