Throwback Thursday – Trying to Learn Some New Tricks

This post was originally published on the HMGS site on May 25, 2019.

Hello all! I am currently working on Vikings for Saga. I have decided to go on a slightly brighter theme and with more uniformity across the force than would probably be historically accurate. I’ve decided to do it this way so the figures pop off the table instead of blending into the background. I haven’t got to shields yet because I am stuck for ideas. I tried free handing one with the world tree but I didn’t like how it came out so I’ll probably be going with the simpler design. While it didn’t come out how I hoped it would at least they gave it a shot. You never know how things will work out unless you try it first. As an example Greg of Wicked Elf Miniatures suggested I blackline the helmets. I’ve been reading about black lining for my 20+ years in the hobby and have never felt comfortable giving it a try. I figured why not, it’s just paint and went for it. Turns out, on the helmets at least, I like the look. I suggest you guys try pushing your hobby limits every now and then too. I tried my hand at sculpting a chain mail coat on one of my Bondi Because I needed another hearth guard but that will keep for another post because I needed another Hearth Guard but that will keep for another post. My 28mm painting challenge stands at 28 painted, 17 bought. Once I finish the shields that number will go up to 37 painted. Not bad!
