My son finished his Ork Combat Patrol and offered to do battle. Naturally I had to accept, even if I haven’t played any 40k 11th edition!! I figured I’d be able to figure it out easily enough, but we did decide to limit strategums to those in the main rule book. I don’t have a combat patrol painted but I have a random assortment of Dark Angles painted from the minis in the last few starter boxes so I quickly knocked out an army so we could play. I was so out of touch I didn’t realize point values in this edition were basically a more granular power level so I was quite confused when adding certain equipment didn’t change the point cost!
Da Orks!

The other green boys, the Dark Angels.

My son set up the terrain, the bases set up around the central tower were the objectives.

Da grot deep in da rulez!

The Dark Angels advanced and exchanged fire with the Orks. A handful of boyz in both units went down to the precise fire of the Angels of Death while only one Space Marine was killed by Ork return fire!

After shifting around the Hellblasters opened fire on the Def Coptas and eliminated two of them!

The Orks rampaged forward tired of shooting. The Deff Dread killed two Assault Marines and injured another while the orks on the other flank took out a Marine and wounded another for the loss of two Ork boyz. The Orks failed their Battle Shock test and fell back from the Dark Angels.

The Intercessors fell back from the combat and the Hellblasters finished off the Deff Copta. The Intercessors eliminated the remaining Ork Boyz from the other squad. The Marine Captain and the Ork Warboss continued to exchange blows with the Dark Angel taking the worst of it in this turn!

The Deff Dread charged into the Inercessors and tore them to shreds! The reaming Ork boys retreated behind the central fuel container to try and take an objective and prevent themselves from not getting gunned down. Not very Orky! The boss battle continued with the Master taking another wound but bringing the Warboss to within one!

The Hellblasters which tried to wound the Deff Dread on turn one and failed to scratch the monstrosity took aim and in a flurry of shots took the beast down in one turn! One Hellblaster stood to close to the sun and went down to the power of his own gun. Considering I shot on full power four turns only losing one Marine was pretty good!

The Master was finally able to lay the Warboss low with his Relic Sword after his Power Fist failed to finish the beast off!

The final Ork on the table, having survived the shooting of the three Intercessors leapt forward with a roar rising from his throat, desperate to kill his opponents in close combat.

The Nob was able to slay two of the Space Marines and survived the return attack! With only one Ork left on the board we called the game 55VP’s to the Dark Angels to 25 for the Orks!

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the game, but as I only played one and never read the rules maybe I’ll like the next game. I had a ton of fun playing with my son though and that more than outweighs how I feel about the game. Besides, I’m writing this article before I go to Adepticon, if rumors are true there will be release information about 11th Edition by the time this goes lives. My son is super excited because all the rumors point to Orks being in the box so I guess I’ll be picking that up!
