While in Chicago the family and I went to the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.
The museum houses the famous U-505 which was captured by the United States Navy in June 1944 amongst other exhibits. The museum is a la carte in that you can pay $26 USD for adult entry and then purchase additional add-ons. In order to actually go on the U-505 you need to pay for the tour which is an extra $18. At the time of our visit you could add on a tour about Anne Frank, a Coal Mine, or even the history of Spiderman! We didn’t have unlimited time (or funds) so we stuck with the U-505 tour!

One of my favorite exhibits was all about how plastic effects the worlds oceans. This was super informative and the whole area, including the video, was beautifully produced.
The main area is full of aircraft on display hanging from the roof…
and the floor featured a huge diorama on The Great Train Story, a history of trains in America.
I really liked this museum. We spent a lot more time than I thought we would, and even without adding any of the extra exhibits we could have spent a few more hours. If you are in Chicago it is well worth a visit, even for just the U-505 alone. Everything else was icing on the cake!
