An accidental alliance – A Warmaster Battle Report

I recently played in a four person Warmaster battle with my friends. My buddy suggested we deploy in the four corners and then we just teemed up with the player sharing the long board edge with us. Considering we have three bad guy armies and one good guy army it’s the best we could come up with! Because of this we had High Elves team up with the Goblins against wet undead and dry undead. Or Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings as most people call them!

My High Elves.

The Vampire Counts I was arrayed opposite of.

The goblins with which I’d be teaming up with aligned against the Tomb Kings.

The High Elves were feeling aggressive and so they launched an early charge against the Vampire Counts. One unit of Chariots charged the two units of Black Knights while the Silver Helms and the other Chariots charged the four units of Wolves, while the Eagles charged the rear. The High Elves weren’t waiting around for the Necromancers to raise dead!

The mass charge destroyed the Wolves and the surviving elves reformed for future charges. The Elven Chariots did more than they took but only slightly! In the second round of combat the Knights finished off the impudent chariots but not before losing the last stand of one of involved units!

The victorious Black Knights charged the stand of Silver Helms. Even with us giving the Black Knights way too many dice they failed to kill the remaining stand! The vampires also sent a large brigade through the woods to threaten the flank of the Spearmen!

Meanwhile on other flank the Tomb Kings and Goblins jockeyed for position. The Tomb Kings were luckily able to use the large woods to shield themselves from the Goblin artillery losing only one unit. Still, the horde of goblins were able to make the enemy pay dropping a few units of chariots down a stand with shooting.

The High Elves rode to the rescue of the Silver Helm Unit crashing in with the Reavers and the remaining chariot to hit the Black Knights. The Spearmen charged forward to take out the last stands of two undead units.

The elven charge was successful eliminating the Black Knights for no loss of their own. The two units of undead were finished off by the glittering ranks of the Spearmen.

The elves realigned their ranks to face the approaching undead. The Vampire Counts had thus far been unable to raise any dead and their numbers were quickly dwindling through melee and Elven shooting.

The Tomb Kings were steadily wearing down the Goblins in melee but the Goblins were giving almost as good as they got!

The Vampire Necromancer finally got off a raise dead and pinned the Spearmen between three units. The Spearmen managed to give as good as they got and pushed the undead back. Meanwhile the Eagles banished a unit of undead which caused the Vampire Counts to meet their breakpoint. On the other flank the goblins had survived the previous turn just below their break point and in the next turn the Tomb Kings and the Goblins both reached their break point at the same time.

Meanwhile, the High Elves had sensed they would break the Goblins and sent a chariot stand, a Silver Helm stand and their General racing after a unit of two Tomb King chariots which they were able to hit in the rear and destroy!

At the end of the game only the High Elves were left standing so we declared it a High Elf victory!

At the end of the game we decided what happened was all four armies arrived on the battle field and started fighting the enemy closest. The High Elves, realizing they had routed the Vampire Counts spun around to engage the other two armies but as soon as they did so they melted away when they engaged the Tomb Kings. Just the type of story the High Elves would tell!
