I managed to get my first game of Warmaster under my belt due in part to finishing my hero on a dragon at the last minute. In this Battle Report we see an unholy alliance of Tomb Kings and High Elves versus Goblins and Vampire Counts. Each player brought 1,000 points of there chosen army and we rolled to see who would team up with who. Looks like I need to either paint a lot more High Elves, or join the bad guys so our games make sense!
The mighty High Elves, along with some beautiful dice from the Baron of Dice and a magic potion. Ok, fine. It’s a Negroni. It’s not magical but it sure could be!

The mighty Tomb Kings aligned for battle!

The deployed High Elves and Tomb Kings.

The Goblins arrayed for war!

The Vampire Counts arranged to fight their mortal foes, the Tomb Kings!

The “good guys” started their advance. I didn’t realize it but those High Elf archers on the right flank were in for some trouble….

The Goblin artillery rained death upon the impudent archers utterly destroying them! First blood to the Goblins!

Desperate to prevent the Goblins from destroying another unit the Elven Chariots made three movements and charged into the rickety contraptions!

The Carrion weren’t able to make it into combat but the chariots destroyed the machines on their own…

before following up into the flanks of the Goblin brigades!

The combat continued with more goblins getting rundown by the victorious chariots!

One unit of chariots was able to pull back but the other opted to maintain contact.

The Hero spurred his dragon on to join the chariots on the flank of the goblins and made short work of them!

Meanwhile the other chariot unit was dropped to only one chariot but due to an obnoxious number of saves the lone chariot managed to stay in the fight…

until realizing discretion was the better part of valor and fell back to remove its hits. Once cleared it joined the other chariot unit and the dragon in hitting the flank of a goblin unit, which again did not go well for the goblins.

Meanwhile, with the help of the mage, the High Elf Repeating Bolt Throwers started picking away at the wolf riders, who were clearly in no mood to advance as they continued to fail their command roll!

On the other flank a brigade of Tomb King skeletons charged the Vampire on Dragon and his Black Knights. Bold fellas, I’m sure this went well….

Oh. It did go well. They managed to kill a stand of Black Knights and winning the combat! They followed up and things went more to form and the Tomb Kings were sent back to dust!

In the back of the board the Tomb King Chariots took way too many turns to kill off a rouge bat swarm, but eventually they did!

Due to numerous failed command rolls the Tomb King Brigade with the giant Necrosphinx was barely halfway across the table!

Going back to the other flank we saw the Tomb King chariots engage a brigade of Goblins, but the Elven lines were very uneven at this point!

The goblins were able to use their command to charge the High Elf chariots. Surely this would be the end of the lone chariot!

Except on their way in the goblins charging the two chariots clipped the Hero on Dragon allowing him to join the chariot and along with a handful of saves prevented the machine from being destroyed!

With this last unit being destroyed the Goblins hit their break point and were scattered to the four winds. Looking at the board it was pretty clear that the Vampire Counts couldn’t hold all on their own and with that we called it a victory for the High Elves and the Tomb Kings!

This chariot was clearly the man of the match having been in the combat that destroyed the Goblin war machines and having survived more than his fair share of attacks with a mere 5+ save. For Ulthuan!

I know the goblins have really low leadership but my opponent rolled really poorly for his command rolls, even with the multiple goblin heroes running around. Added to that the Vampire Counts pet Necromancer needs to go back to studying his dark arts as he hardly got off any spells all game!
Considering this was my first game of Warmaster and I have been painting almost nothing else besides Warmaster it’s a good thing I liked it. I’d hate to have wasted all that time on a game I didn’t like! Winning never hurts, but I definitely will be trying to get my army painted for the Adepticon tournament I entered. Maybe I’ll even get in another game and read the rules before then….
