Welcome to the Wachtmeister’s Warmaster Challenge! Five challengers will attempt to paint a 1,000 point Warmaster army in six months. The goal is to paint about 200 points every month which allows us each a one month mulligan in case life gets in the way. Without further ado lets meet the challengers!

I know nothing about Warmaster. What I do know is how to talk myself into another painting challenge. So when the Wachtmeister mentioned this painting challenge, I immediately acquired a few boxes of Wargames Atlantic’s 10mm Japanese to construct a Warmaster “Nippon” army. The moment everything arrived in the mail I excitedly opened the boxes and realized that 10mm scale is insanely tiny and most likely beyond my physical ability to see well enough to paint. That’s me admitting that this was a dumb idea, and it’s too late to back out.

3 Ashigaru 135
2 Ashigaru Bowmen 110
2 Ashigaru Teppo 130
2 Samurai 160
1 Oni 110
2 Samurai Cavalry 220
1 Tengu 80
1 Shogun 125
1 Shugenja 90
Total points: 1160
Like I said, I know nothing about Warmaster, but I think what I have is enough to construct the force above. If not, I’ll get more models during the challenge.

Wachtmeister: PygymyHippo was the first person to submit his entry and I love that he did so as completely blind as I did! For those of you who are new to my blog you might not have seen his amazing work in the 40k 2nd Edition Challenge and despite his protestations about the 10mm scale I have a feeling you are in for a treat! Considering he doesn’t even know what everything is I’m not going to hold his feet to the fire to submit a photo broken down by month, I’m just glad he’s joining us!

Wampgud’s Orc Warband
I is the biggest and strongest and meanest of the Orc. We is going to WAAAGH against the Hoomies, the pretty Elvies, and any other that stands in our way. My mudder calls me Wampgud, but you worms calls me BOSS. You gets me?
I has a gud plan to get our troops together. I has told me bruder Tuggug to send boyz to the open plains while we puts army together. Our furstest recruits come from the swamps and caves. Out riders comes next with a little magic-y shaman. After we has enuf, I flyz to the plains on me pet Wyvern, Grumpy. I likes to boss around the gobbo warrior Snotz and I brings him wid me. Next we brings in more gobbos and orcs to boss them around. By this time, our mago will be ready with hims giant. I tells the Black Orcs and Ogres to come last, they be late anyway.

Wachtmeister: Unlike PygmyHippo Todd is an expert at painting 10mm figures as he is an experienced Napoleonic player so he is used to painting small figures. He has already painted a Tomb King army for Warmaster over the last few months so this will be his chance to get a second army ready to rock. I’ve seen a few of his test stands and I really like how they are coming out so I’m already looking forward to the full army!

Warlord Malachar the Festering’s Vanguard
The Fall and Rise of Malachar the Festering
In the frozen wastes beyond Kislev, where the wind carries whispers of decay and the ground itself weeps with infection, there once stood the proud hold of Clan Ironsson. Malachar, eldest son of Jarl Erik Ironsson, was destined to inherit a legacy of honor and strength. But Grandfather Nurgle had other plans for the young warrior.
The Red Death came to the northlands like a tide of suffering, consuming entire tribes in days. As Malachar watched his father’s warriors waste away, their strength ebbing with each labored breath, he made a desperate pilgrimage to the ancient plague-shrine of Kul’thanar. There, surrounded by the bones of a thousand supplicants, he offered himself wholly to Nurgle, begging the Plague Father to spare his people.
Nurgle answered with generous cruelty. The god blessed Malachar and his remaining followers with divine resilience, making them immune to the Red Death – but also transforming them into eternal carriers of the Plague Father’s gifts. Where once stood proud Norscan warriors, now shambled the blessed children of decay. Malachar emerged as Nurgle’s chosen champion, his body a living testament to the beauty of corruption, forever changed and forever grateful to his generous patron.
The Vanguard of Decay
This force represents the Plague Father’s advance gift to the world – a concentrated dose of Nurgle’s blessings designed to prepare entire regions for the greater corruption to come.
“We bring not death but transformation, not ending but beginning. Grandfather Nurgle’s love is patient, eternal, and absolutely inevitable. Accept his gifts gladly, for resistance only delays the joy.”
— Malachar the Festering, before the Blessing of Wolfenburg

Wachtmeister: RW is the only contestant amongst the group to be painting original Warmaster figures he has owned since the game came out. I can’t wait to see what he does with these classic sculpts!
Edit: Todd is also using original sculpts he had since they came out. I didn’t look at his picture close enough to realize these weren’t the 3D sculpts he had been painting!

Greetings fellow grognards!
Fresh out from the Warhammer 40K 2nd edition challenge, we dive straight into this Warmaster challenge! I am going to use this opportunity to finally paint my Lizardmen army, which has been languishing in the closet for years, suffering from the woes of entropy! And it tells: several models are broken, half painted or missing. Because of this, the army I present is barely playable, but once painted will give me a core from which to build a proper force. You may notice a missing stand among one of the saurus units. It is painted, and thus stored God knows where. Part of the challenge will be finding it!

Without further ado, the army list divided in the usual slices:
Lizardmen, 990 points
Slice I: 95 – 1 Slann Mage Palanquin; 150 – 2 Saurus.
Slice II: 270 – 2 Kroxigor.
Slice III: 70 – 2 Skinks; 50 – 2 Salamanders.
Slice IV: 280 – 2 Cold One Riders.
Slice VI: 45 – 1 Saurus Hero; 30 – 1 Skink Shaman.
Until next time!
Wachtmeister: Viden is another one of the madmen who have just successful finished the 40k 2nd Edition Challenge and jumped in on the Warmaster Challenge! I’m glad to have him, I look forward to his take on some tiny Lizardmen!

One day out of the blue Todd asked if I had an interest in Warmaster. While I can’t say it was on the front of my mind but I saw it at Adepticon and thought it looked neat and I remembered I picked up the rules years and years ago so I figured it would be worth a shot. Of course we are going to be playing Warmaster Revolution so that old book still won’t get much use but hey, it’s the thought that counts! I wasn’t sure what army to use and was between High Elves and Chaos. My friend who was going to print the army for me after I bought STL’s said he always liked the look of elves and that was good enough for me. Besides, my first Warhammer army in the 90’s were High Elves and I never got more than a few figures painted so this is my chance to finally get a painted High Elf army, albeit at a totally different scale. On top of this if you know me I don’t like making lists and Chaos has a lot more options so High Elves were a double win. The only problem is I learned the High Elves are considered the top tier of Warmaster army lists and I’m not a good player. Why is that a problem you ask? I like to play mediocre armies so I can lay some of the blame at the feet of my troops, I won’t be able to get away with these guys!
Since I didn’t know what I’d need and my friend who was doing the printing doesn’t know anything about Warmaster I ended up with a fairly random assortment of troops printed. I ended up with way to many banners and not enough rear rankers so some of the Spear Elves you see will likely be swapped out for regular infantry when it comes time to painting them. I know Chariots aren’t the most ideal use of point but again I ended up with a ton of chariots, so much so I may end up painting them for a mini chariot racing game!

High Elf General – 180 points
High Elf Hero – 80 points
High Elf Wizard – 90 points
1x Archers – 75 points
2x Spearmen 120 points
1x Silver Helms – 110 points
1x Reavers – 90 points
2x Chariots – 95 points
1x Giant Eagles – 70 points
1x Elven Bolt Throwers – 55 points
1060 total points
With that we have meet our challengers, I hope to see you all next month as we show off what was painted in Month 1!
