On a bit of a last minute whim I decided to enter the Olden Demon painting competition. I’m a bit worn out on painting 2nd Edition 40k so decided I could use a palate cleanser and at the same time I saw the Olden Demon starting to fill up my social media. Looking around my painting table I saw my Queen Helgar Longplaits model from the recently delivered Games Workshop Made to Order. I have wanted this model ever since I started playing Dwarfs almost twenty years ago, and since she was made in 1996 she was the perfect fit for the contest.

One of the rules for the contest was the model had to be pre-2000, she’s from 1996 so while the model isn’t old enough the sculpt is. Additionally, the model needed to be on a green base, ideally in the style of White Dwarf’s of the time, i.e. Goblin Green. I didn’t have any Goblin Green so Warpstone Glow had to do. My Dwarf army is on Cobblestone bases so at some point she will get rebased to fit with the army. This won’t be anytime soon as I need to figure out what bases I want to use for my rebasing project to get the army ready for Warhammer The Old World. I’m very happy with how her hair came out and while she is definitely tabletop standard I had a lot of fun paintingher! While she isn’t perfect I got something off my painting table and did so fairly quickly which is enough of a win for me!

It’s pretty clear her highness doesn’t skip her squats!
