When Warhammer The Old World was released I picked up the rulebook, the Ravening Hordes and Forces of Fantasy books, and the Kingdom of Bretonnia Arcane Journal and the Tomb Kings Arcane Journal.

What does the Arcane Journal for the Kingdom of Bretonnia add?

The Arcane Journal adds a game scenario, two special army lists, three special characters, four different units, and three pages of new magic items. It also has a little extra fluff, and some more full color pictures.

The Errantry Crusade list focuses on Knights Errant, requiring one unit per every 1,000 points as core, and allowing 0-1 units of Battle Pilgrim’s as a core unit as well. The Bold Crusaders list does not have the regular Blessing of the Lady, in fact the knights have lost her favor and so can’t pray at the beginning of the game at all. Instead they get a different virtue, and if they manage to do something particularly heroic they can regain the Blessing.

So, is it worth it? I bought the book not realizing the basic Bretonnians were in the Forces of Fantasy book. I don’t currently have a Bretonnian army and so I think I would have been ok without this one. I would like to build a Kingdom of Bretonnia force but this book could have waited until I got an army up and ready. The extra items are nice, and the return of the Green Knight reminds me of the glory days of playing for me but I don’t feel it’s a must buy.

Did you buy the Arcane Journal? If so do you think it was worth the purchase?
