Throwback Thursday – Cold Wars 2019

The post was originally published on the HMGS website on March 16, 2019

This year I was only able to attend Cold Wars Thursday and Friday. Poor planning on my part I know! Thursday night I helped the Hobby University team set up the classrooms, played a new game and had a few libations. The game I played is currently being designed and is therefore in the play testing phase. It’s called Heart of Leviathan. It uses a lot of the rules and mechanics from Star Wars by Fantasy Flight. It is a WWI game. It’s quick, bloody and not terribly historically accurate but it gives you boats to push around and shoot people. The designer is still working out a few things but it appears to be a high production quality game. I’m sure if you follow the HMGS Facebook page you’ll see more about it in due time.

On Friday I staffed the Hobby University Paint N’ Take table for the bulk of the afternoon. We had a few customers and in the downtime I assembled The Cyclops Tower by Knights of Dice. It had a lot of pieces but went together very intuitively once on the pieces were separated to like sizes. It’s a great kit and I can’t wait to paint it. I bought it from a friend this morning and it’s already assembled so that’s a record of sorts in itself!

Tonight I hope to take a class and then I’ll be heading home. I’ll be hitting the vendor hall shortly. Unfortunately this convention only has a nighttime flea market so I’ll miss out on that as I need to be on the road. That’s my favorite part of the show so I’m bummed I’m going to miss it. Even though I was only at the con for short time I got a lot of stuff done I wanted to and saw some good friends. See you all at Historicon!
