Game Night 1-25-26

Like a lot of the United States the DC area was hit with a snow storm. While we didn’t get the 20+ inches we were initially promised, or even the 10” the weather people eventually settled on it was enough to cancel game night. Fortunately, Monday was already a teacher workday so I was able to enlist my boys into an ad hoc game of Castle Ravenloft and a roaring fire really added to the atmosphere as did the potion in my glass!

I used to play this game fairly frequently so a quick rule review and I mostly had it ready to go. I said mostly as I misread something and thought a monster was played every turn, not just on turns in which a new tile was explored. This snafu made the game a lot harder than it needed to be, but this helped make the game interesting after a bit of luck on our part. In an encounter one of the boys had to place a tile from the bottom of the stack, which randomly happened to be the objective tile. Normally we would have found the objective tile between tile 9 and 12 and we found it on tile two! If it weren’t for all the extra monsters we would have easily won within record time! We probably would have just started over in the case but sometimes a mistake ends up not being the end of the world! I’m hoping the boys want to play again, I’ve never made it all the way through the campaign, and I still have The Legend of Drizzt version of the game to play as well!

My wife made Chicken Parmigiana and meatballs and they really hit the spot after going out and shoveling the 6″ of snow and the 2″ of ice we got. I’m not ashamed to admit I had two pieces of chicken parm, two meatballs, and one and a half servings of rigatoni!

I hope you all had a safe weekend and if you have to go out in the snow over the next few days you stay safe then too!
