As I mentioned last week I decided to rebase some of my Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy for use in Age of Sigmar, Spearhead. I couldn’t help but cringe a little at the storage solution these poor guys have been living in for the last twenty years and was glad to rescue a few of them from this fate! These are mostly plastic miniatures but there are a few metals hiding in there as well. I do have a tray of metal Plague Monks and Stormvermin in another bin, but they are in foam trays so that’s much better. Still, it is a coarse foam that probably isn’t too good for the paint job, but as they haven’t been moved in years they haven’t been that abused.
I just noticed one of the Skaven was nicknamed “Lucky” at one point, I guess he was one of my Mordheim rats!

While I haven’t saved them all from this fate I did finish the rebasing as you can see below. I added some flock and some tufts and the army is ready to go, for real this time! I’m still not sure they can beat the Maggotkin Spearhead, but now that we know two of the Nurgle units come in on turn 3 units maybe we’ll have a chance next game!

For those of you who are worried my storage solutions have certainly improved over the years! I’m not magnetizing the figures and storing them in plastic bins. The troops generally make it from my house to the store still standing, and there is no foam rubbing the paint off the models so I’m pretty happy with what I have! I have magnetized these miniatures as well so once I get a bin ready they will be all set to safely get to the store!
What storage methods do you use to protect and transport your painted figures? Is anyone else willing to admit to the box o’ miniatures method? My Vampire Counts are also suffering from this storage method but much like the rest of the Skaven I don’t think they are going to be saved any time soon….
