At Historicon a friend who I only get to see at the HMGS conventions mentioned he’s been playing Spearhead and as I just got the Skaventide box as part of the swag bag at Adepticon I figured I might as well paint up a faction. After all, how long could 15 or so minis take? After mentioning this to my regular The Old World opponent he reminded me he had a force for Age of Sigmar and could easily do Spearhead so we set up a game. He said I didn’t even need to have my miniatures painted and I almost took him up on the offer. That is until I remembered my first painted army ever, the Skaven, could probably give me the contents of the new Skaven Spearhead box. I looked around and found out that yes, they could easily fill in the role and so with that I decided I was going to Blu-Tack them to the appropriate bases and call it a day. I sprayed some bases with a couple different browns and broke the Rat Ogres off their square bases. As they had integrated posts in their feet a piece of Blu-Tack made them pretty stable. I was going to keep with this plan until I looked over at my Vallejo ground texture and realized in about 20 minutes I could have them rebased and looking way better than just tacking them to a base. And since they would need to be rebased for The Old World if I ever went that route pulling them off the old bases didn’t seem so bad all of a sudden.
I plan on adding some drybrushing, wash, and flock, but overall they look better than just putting them on plain bases, and way better than just primed. Hey, pay no attention to the Golden Boys behind the woods….

I was lucky, I even had a suitable Claw Lord on Gnaw-Beast. Way back in the day, when allies were the norm, I bought Rakham Goblin Riders on Giant rats to act as wolf riders for my Skaven. I combined the Skaven kit with Goblin Wolf Rider legs and put them on the Giant Rats. This one was on the best shape of the group so he got a serious promotion!

You can tell they are a little beat up, but after 20 years in the box they are ready to get back to the fight!

I’ll be sure to follow up with how they did in a future post!
