A return to Apocalypse!

My group decided to try out Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse after a five year gap. We attempted a 300 point battle, the smallest size suggested by the rules, and while we only got two turns in before the shop closed we found ourselves getting back into stride by the end of the night. I’m not going to do a full battle report but I figured I’d show off some pictures.

Oh, you might notice the minis are rather small, it’s because we thought Apocalypse made a great rule set for our old Epic figures! We use the regular ranges and movement for Apocalypse with Epic figures, the only thing we change are the size of auras and any templates as they can cover a disproportionate number of models at this scale.

We set up three objectives running across the middle of the table, and an objective in each players deployment zone. The objectives across the middle of the table were worth 2 points each. The objective in each players deployment zone was worth 1 point for them, but 3 points if the enemy captured it. You had to have a unit on the objective to control it, it wasn’t yours until it was captured.

The Dark Angels quickly advanced on the city and threw their Assault Marines in a position to assault the back objective. The assault marines were met with very ineffectual fire from no less than seven Leman Russ battle tanks. The Whirlwinds knocked out a Basilisk from the artillery park sitting on their defensive objective.

The Imperial Guard was able to subvert the enemy vox-net forcing the Assault Marines (and the Attack Bike behind one of the buildings) to change their order from assault to something else, so the marine player opted to choose aim and have them sit tight.

The Chimeras rolled up and dropped off their Guard squads on and around the objective building.

The Dark Angel Librairan tried to cast Null Zone but it was nullified by the Guard’s faith in the Emperor!

The Guard was able to rapidly redeploy to try and continue to control the central objective.

After shooting the Marines actually outnumbered the Guard forces and took control of the central objective, for now at least!

The final picture. While the guard were up on objectives 8-5 at the end of two it was way to early to call the game so I won’t even try! I’m hoping we get to play again soon, I’ve started looking through my old blisters for something to paint. I should work on some more infantry but those three Shadowswords are looking way more fun!

Do you play Apocalypse with Epic miniatures? If so what modifications to the rules do you use?
