I was at Historicon when I saw Gale Force Nine released a new line for their very popular Gothic Sector Battlefield in a Box range. As a volunteer at the convention I had some unused vouchers to spend and knew I needed to do so on some of this terrain! I wasn’t sure if I’d pick up the rest of the line so I decided on two pieces that would have the most utility; the Eldar Portals and the Eldar Landing Pad. Both pieces cost $30 USD and like the rest of the line come pre-painted and ready to play out of the box. They are made of a sturdy resin that seem like they will stand up to the rigors of gaming.

As with the other lines these pieces come well secure in a veritable cloak of bubble wrap.

The Eldar Portals do not require any assembly and come ready to play out of the box! These are the ultimate piece of Eldar themed terrain as portals like these have been seen in both the Dawn of War series and across Games Workshops publications over the years. They are very clearly painted in the Biel Tan color scheme and besides that one splash of red on the left portal they are very clean.

I also picked up the Eldar Landing Pad. The Landing Pad comes in four pieces, the pad itself and there pylons. The pylons can attach to the landing pad with magnets for easy storage, like other pieces in the Gothic Sector line. I didn’t try to put them together yet so I don’t know how well the magnets fit, however, they pylons are pretty steady and didn’t tip over as I was setting up and of my models for the later pictures so they might not be needed anyway.

As I still had my 2nd Edition Mordian Iron Guard out for their 40k 2nd Edition Challenge photo shoot I figured I’d use them to show off how the pieces looked with 2nd Edition models on the table.

For those who play modern 40k I took this picture of the Dark Angels securing this Eldar outpost.

I wanted to show these pieces off with some Eldar on them so I decided I’d allow myself to show it off with unpainted figures. I didn’t realize my Eldar box has a few painted models so I felt better about the unpainted Falcon. Still, this is a product review so what better model to review an Eldar Landing pad than an Eldar skimmer? Maybe Eldar will be my next army….

As mentioned they are pre-painted and the paint job is very neat and tidy, although they could use a little depth in some of the recesses. Considering I just taught a class on painting gems at Historicon I think I’ll have to add some depth, I need to show I can practice what I teach! Overall these are terrific terrain pieces and I think I’ll get a few more of the Eldar line in the future, after all one can never have enough high quality pre-painted terrain!
