40k 2nd Edition Challenge Mark VI – May Data

We have made it to the second to last month of the 2025 40k 2nd Edition Challenge. We’ve had some participants finish, some drop out and some make progress towards finishing. Lets take a deep dive into the data!

We’ve had at least one Sanction Redactus each month and month 5 was no different with us having lost Flogger to the warp. We had four contestants use their mulligan leading into the final push, and twenty nine contestants, 85% of those remaining, got in their entries.

Overall we have lost a total of 7 participants, or 18%. Of the original participants 29, or 72% submitted an entry this month.

Despite only having one less contestant this month submit an entry than last we dropped almost 1,000 points. That includes the fact I ended up painting almost 400 more points this month than last! I think it shows some good strategy on the parts of the contestants to front load their points in the earlier months and then winnow down as they get closer to the end to ensure they finish.

This month saw the group collectively paint 93 less models than last month, a 41% decrease! Hero of the Imperium Mørk did drop from his normally insanely high model count this month of around 60+ models to a reasonable 10, but again that only counts for about half of the decrease. (The Mørk effect did not play into the points differential as he got almost as many points from those 10 models as he normally does from 60+!) Again, I think our contestants are playing it smart by knocking out their big model counts early.

If you compare this months Models Per Painter graph to last months you’ll see how we ended up with a lot less models and points as 96.5% of our contestants painted 10 or less models.

As it is month 5 it is possible some of our contestants have technically completed the challenge. This chart requires some explanation. The No (Sanction Redactus) is fairly self explanatory as these brave souls were eliminated in their attempt to paint 1,000 points of glorious 2nd Edition models. No (Mulligan) participants could not finish in 5 months as they used a mulligan. While they could technically have painted their initial challenge the rules require entry in 5 of the 6 months. Yes is fairly self explanatory, but not perfectly so. Those contestants, who had not used a mulligan, who submitted an entry and outright stated they had completed their initial pledge are included in this category. Some indicated they were planning on doing a bonus entry so while they themselves aren’t done their initial pledge is. The unknown category is made up of those who haven’t been Sanction Redactus (obviously), use a mulligan, or outright said they had finished their entry. I guess I could have been slightly more accurate in the fact that I’m in that category, but I know I still have a single squad of guardsmen and a commissar to finish, but you get the drift.

I look forward to seeing our remaining 24 contestants finish their entries and submit their final pictures almost as much as I’m looking forward to resting after compiling all this information!
