Just a short narrative this month! My family and I just returned from a trip to Florida – no theme parks, just national parks and the beach! – so I had just enough time to wrap up the slice before submission.
This month we have six more Tyranid warriors, two with devourers, two with venom cannons, and two with barbed stranglers. I ran out of warrior barbed stranglers and so did a little conversion work to fit a hive tyrant’s strangler onto the side of a warrior. All in all, I’m very happy with how they’ve come out!
I also had a chance to do a little re-work on some bonus models; hopefully you’ll all get to see them and my final last pledged hive tyrant next month.

Stay strong! The finish is in sight!
TJM – Tyranids – Month 5
Tyranid Warrior with Barbed Strangler x2 – 158 pts.
Tyranid Warrior with Venom Cannon x2 – 176 pts.
Tyranid Warrior with Devourer x2 – 114 pts.
Total Models: 6
Total Points: 448 pts.
Wachtmeister: Once again TJM continues with his big gribbly fest. Of course, I’m not talking about his Tyranids but rather his trip to Florida! His Tyranid Warriors are terrific of course! I’m not sure who TJM is telling to stay strong but I’m going to assume it’s me! One more month!

Howdy all,
This was originally going to be an attack bike, but after scoring salvageable dreadnought from a friend I quickly changed my mind. The attack bike can wait.
I always have a lot of fun with dreadnoughts and this one was no different. His banner pole was broken in shipping and was replaced with some brass rod and a tiny flaming brazier bit from DJ. I really wanted to try my hand at sculpting something with green stuff. It’s been good 20 years since I really tried anything. The result was the half skull next to the sarcophagus. Overall I was pleased with how that turned out.
Then, to finish off that iconic Legion of the Damned look, I freehanded some flames in a few places and did some crossbones on the side of the power fist. Finally, I named him Ignis the Igniter.

Only thing left is the bike squad. Congratulations, to all of you that finished the challenge with this month’s entries!
Legion of the Damned Dreadnought 115 (230)
-autolauncher 5
-multi-melta 95
-power fist w/ built-in storm bolter 15
Wachtmeister: The sculpted skull really goes nicely with the Blood Angels sarcophagus. Along with the awesome free-handed flames there is no doubt this is a Legion of the Damned dreadnought. Ignis the Igniter could not be a better name!

Hi all!
Tycho is my single miniature for this month, 114 points with full equip. Finally I’ve done it NMM. It has been learning time for me, spending a lot of hours, but enjoying it a lot. I’m really happy how it has come out, taking into account that it is my second attempt at gold NMM, and the first one was really bad… There are still some minor fixes pending on the banner. For next month I’m painting the terminator squad. Let’s see if I can finish it on time!

Cheers!
Jaime.
Wachtmeister: This is some really terrific NMM, I keep looking at it up close to make sure it really is NMM! Another awesome personal touch is the free hand banner which really adds another level to the miniature. Jaime has put out some terrific work this challenge but I’m pretty confident his take on Brother Captain Tycho is my favorite!

This month I have 1 Keeper of Secrets to add to the Black Legion force for a total of 280 points.
This month I’ve been super busy this month with end of university semester, so not much time to spare. Most of the time was spent on this conversion. It was an ebay rescue and missing the pointing arm, and entombed in glue with lots of damage.
My first attempt at proper sculpting outside of fur or hair, I built the claw out of an old tyranid piece and added a tail from a metal zoanthrope, I think a tail gives the model a better balance. Also added some metal hooves with heels as that felt nicely Slaaneshi.

Really happy with the outcome of the conversion and I learned a lot. Sadly the base hasn’t shown up so I’ll have to get another sorted out during June. I painted it to vaguely match the old codex scheme from 3rd edition.
Cheers Psykka
Wachtmeister: My first glance didn’t catch all the conversions Psykka did, but when I opened up the picture I saw what a smooth job he did integrating the other pieces. I don’t think I would have caught the fancy footwear he added without him pointing it out for sure. That is a mark of a really great conversion when you can’t even tell it has been done! The gloss red tongue is also a nice, fairly gross addition!

Well here it is. No fuss no muss 1 dreadnought. 1000 points complete.

It was a third edition dread originally, modeled with a chain fist. I’m gonna use it as a thunderhammer total 135 for the dread 20 for the thunderhammer 55 for the twin lascannon 210 point total
Wachtmeister: I’d imagine their would be quite a bit of fuss and muss if this Night Lords dreadnought showed up at your doorstep! I love the brass knuckle looking power fist. It’s smaller than most but I certainly wouldn’t underestimate it!

Another month, another email written literally nine minutes before I need to submit it. Going to have to keep this one short. This month’s entry is my Wolf Guard unit. They’re just in regular power armor not the much more popular Wolf Guard in terminator armor that used to get spammed with a plethora of assault cannons back in the day.
These guys are a combination of Wolf Guard models, and some kit bashes with third-party parts to make unique and interesting Space Wolves fitting of the heroes of the Wolf Guard. My favorite is the guy front and center, who has the same hairstyle as Sabertooth did in 90s X-Men comics.
As this month draws to close, I’m psyched about tomorrow evening because I will get to engage in a four player game with some other challenge members who live here in Northern Virginia. We are going to meet up in the Wachtmeister’s basement to have a large Ork horde take on some Imperial and Eldar allies classic second edition style.
Next month, I only have one model to paint to complete the challenge: Ulrik the slayer who is going act as my commander for this thousand points of my fledgling Space Wolves army. Thanks again to Wachtmeister for hosting this craziness. See everyone next month.

Trusted of Jhorghain – Wolf Guard Pack, 5 Wolf Guard, Power Fist x2, Power Sword x2, Power Axe, Plasma pistol x3 200 points
Wachtmeister: I also love the center models awesome Sabertooth esq hairstyle. I’ll almost feel bad dropping a bunch of templates on him when we play our traditional end of challenge battle! I also really like how Jon did the power swords on these guys, the blue crackles with power just looking at them! You can check out some pictures of the mega battle Jon was talking about on this very blog, a full battle report should be out soon so keep on eye out!

It’s been a good month for hobby with plenty of painting time. I’ve had a printed battle wagon sat on my shelf waiting to go and 2 buggies in need of some love and restoration.
The battle wagon is to transport the boyz that I painted in my first month. Coz they ain’t walkin.
The buggies are there to flankers and be the anti tank role for the force with 2 mutimeltas on paper. I wasn’t able to figure out converting orky multimeltas but I’m ok with that and happy with how they have finished up.
The original plan was to paint the whole force evil suns. But during the month I managed to pick up some goodies which is the reason 1 of the buggies is now bad moon. So the final month should be a good finish for this project with some more yellow boyz.

War Buggy – 65pts X2
Multi Melta
Battlewagon – 70pts
Ablative armour, Supercharged Engine
Wachtmeister: I love Gazamataz’ super clean painting style. Red and yellow are notoriously difficult to paint and he’s done it in a super crisp style. They might not look like multi-melta’s on those war buggies but I certainly wouldn’t put it past the Orks to figure out a way to add some extra oomph to their rounds!

Another month, another mini done, and you can probably see why only one!
I am never doing diamonds that small again!

The Solitaire comes in at only 119 points, but next months Shadow Seer will make up those points.
Wachtmeister: Jim may have only painted one miniature this month but it has enough small diamonds for an armies worth of figures! Terrific job Jim, one month to go before you can stop painting the rainbow! I have a real strong feeling Maddix is going to love this picture!

Let’s not let the impressive points total trick anyone because while I finished a lot of models these were all mostly done in previous months. The Inquisitor Lord has been getting worked on slowly since at least April, the Auto cannon squad just needed the guns and some finishing touches to be finished last month, and the Leman Russ has been sitting around waiting to go from base colors to finished since fall of 2023. Still, I’m down to just needing to paint a Commissar and a single squad to finish next month so we will see how it goes. Normally I wouldn’t count a figures non what you see is what you get items but since this is the sixth challenge and the first time I have ever painted a psyker I figured I’d make it worth it! See you all next month for the final month of the challenge!

Inquisitor Lord w/ power armor, Bolter, level 4 psyker 225 points
Auto cannon squad 108 points
Leman Russ 205 points
8 models
538 points
Four contestants used their mulligan this month, I hope to see them return next month with their finished armies!

So this month I’m going to have to use the mulligan. Unfortunately whilst using a hammer to intruder-proof our chicken enclosure I temporarily forgot the difference between a nail and a finger, which left me unable to hold a brush for just over a week. As a result I’ve only finished half the units needed for this slice, so I’ll just have to finish them off next month and see if I’ve still got any time for some sort of bonus modelling.
Wachtmeister: I feel Tom missed an opportunity to say he forgot the difference between a nail and a nail but I’ll forgive him. Lets all wish him a speedy recovery, I look forward to his finished army next month!

I’ll have to use my mulligan this month since I haven’t had much time or energy for painting. I’m hoping June will prove more productive!
Wachtmeister: I’m hoping Ted is more productive next month too, it’s our final month!

Sorry for not emailing earlier – I have been incredibly busy.
Definitely a mulligan for this month – but I will work my hardest to not let it happen again.
Wachtmeister: Adrian has been with the challenge since the first iteration and is using his first ever mulligan. I certainly think we can all call that a winning record and look forward to him finishing strong next month!

Reluctantly I’m going to have to use my mulligan this month. I took the first few weeks of May off, knowing that I had some holiday/painting time towards the end of the month but unfortunately I’ve left myself too much to do and I’ve barely scratched the surface of this month’s entry.
Hopefully I should be able to get back on track in June and I aim to finish strongly with a few bonus items too
Cheers
Wachtmeister: I’ve been in TJ’s boat before thinking I have plenty of time and then rushing to finish at the end of the month. Somehow I don’t think he clean style of painting yellow lends itself to a last minute rush so I’m glad he’s taking his time and planning on finishing on a high point in our final month!
The Sanction Redactus claimed one more member this month.

After a strong first three months Flogger has disappeared into the warp. I hope he managed to finish his army one day!
That is it for Month 5, I look forward to seeing everyone for next month, the penultimate month of the 40k 2nd Edition Challenge, Mark VI!
