I picked up this little R5 almost exactly one year ago when I went to Your Hobby Place after going to the Richmond Open. With May 4th right around the corner I figured it was time to get some paint on him. I’m not sure what he’s going to be used for, but every Star Wars table could use some droids as scatter terrain! I have heard people suggest using paint as a basecoat for yellow and so I gave it a try. It did produce a much richer looking yellow than just my typical Vallejo Game Color Heavy Yellow. I still used the Heavy Yellow over the pink but even still in the areas I decided to paint yellow without pink first you could definitely tell the difference up close. Looking from the front the center yellow area that looks like two squares on top of each other was not painted pink first. It isn’t as obvious in my picture but it doesn’t look as rich as the rest of the droid.
