The Williamsburg Muster is one of my favorite conventions so you can imagine my disappointment when I found out the hotel the convention was in started cancelling reservations due to incomplete renovations at the hotel mere weeks before the convention was to happen. The wonderful folks at ODMS announced the hotel cancelled on them, however, they were going to try to find an alternate venue. I wasn’t optimistic they would find a new venue but through hard work, and I’m sure at least a slight miracle they found an alternate location just a few minutes from the previous venue! Unfortunately, my boys had accepted an invite to a birthday part on Friday so we didn’t head down until Saturday morning. Still, we had a full day of gaming and while the numbers were down compared to previous years we still had a great time!
Our drive from Northern Virginia took a slight detour to Fredericksburg where we grabbed some doughnuts from Paul’s Bakery, old school and delicious!

After the morning game we went to grab a drink and play a board game at The Copper Fox and then had lunch at Cook’s Burger Bar. I highly recommend both if you are in Williamsburg! This is my first time sitting down at Cook’s, but after I picked some food up to feed the boys at a lacrosse tournament a few months ago I knew this was a must visit!

We were still mostly full from lunch so for dinner we went to Dominion Dogs for dinner. They had a wide variety of hot dogs, I went with the classic Coney Dog and it was awesome! The boys had their hot dogs upgraded to have bacon wrapped hot dogs, and they extra crunch was delicious. You better believe I hit them with the dad tax!

With a full stomach and a day full of gaming we went to sleep ready for a quick breakfast and a trip to the flea market. Of course we went to the Southern Pancake and Waffle House! Of course one of the boys ordered the chicken and waffles, and the other ordered the sausages wrapped in pancakes! Over the years we’ve tried different breakfast places on day two of our trip, but we always make sure to come here once a trip!

Finding very little of interest at the flea market (thank goodness!) we started for home. We hit some really bad weather which forced us to pull over for a few minutes but by the time we made it back to Fredericksburg the weather had improved and we grabbed frozen custard from Carl’s Frozen Custard! We were just going to get some quarts for my wife, but since it was lunch time, and it was still boy’s weekend we grabbed a treat for ourselves too!
Once again I want to thank the ODMS guys for a great convention. I know how hard they worked to get this off the ground with only a few weeks to find an alternate and I was just thrilled to make it again! I look forward to next year where I don’t need to cram two full days of eating into one day!
