Once again my buddy and I showed up to our local shop with the same armies and lists we had last week. We didn’t have high expectations for a substantially different outcome, but we we had four of us wanting to push miniatures so we replayed our game from last week. My partner from last week played on the side of the Dwarfs this week, and another friend joined me.

The opening deployment. The Dwarfs at the top of the field were the scouting Rangers. Looks like they didn’t get didn’t get the quick jump off the were hoping for!

In the first turn the Dwarfs rolled their choice of going first or second and gave the opening turn to the forces of Nurgle. The Daemons scuttled forward, and the Plague Flies took a few wounds despite staying out of close range.

In the Nurgle turn the Daemons continued to advance while the Plague Flies charged the Thunderers on the hill. If this shows anything, it is that I refuse to learn a lesson as much like last game the double handed weapons played havoc on the flies, chopping two down and causing them to give ground and this time the Dwarfs followed up!

The Dwarfs shooting was slightly more effective this turn and put wounds on the Beasts of Nurgle and the Herald on his palanquin. In combat the Plague Fly champion put a second wound on the Dwarfen Battle Standard Bearer cutting him down! The Dwarfs won the combat pushing the fly back, this time they didn’t follow up!

The Nurgle Demons launched an attack all across the board hitting the Dwarfs at multiple points. The Soul Grinder and the Plague Bearers punished the Longbeards and pushed them back through the dangerous terrain. The Plague Bearers opted to not follow up to avoid the terrain, but the Soul Grinder overran into the Organ Gun. The Beasts of Nurgle, Great Unclean One, and the surviving Plague Fly charged the other unit of Longbeards and after killing half their number breaking the Dwarfs, and running them down!

The Dwarfs put a few wounds on the Beasts of Nurgle, and not shockingly the Organ Gun was crushed by the Soul Grinder.

The Nurgle Demons again charged the Dwarfen lines. The Beasts charged the Thunderers in the center and wiped them out, the Longbeards hiding in the ruins were charged by the Soul Grinder and the Plague Fly and were quickly dispached, and the Great Unclean One got stuck in combat with the Forge Father and his anvil. Meanwhile the plucky Nurglings charged the Dwarfen hero with his brace of magic pistols and failed to get any wounds through getting stuck in combat!

In the Dwarf turn the contest between the Dwarf Hero and the Nurglings continued, the Rangers in the forest took some pot shots at the tide of filth bearing down on them and the Great Unclean One killed the Forge Father in close combat. It’s funny, he seems better when the flail isn’t helping his strength than when it is!

In the Daemons final turn the remaining Thunderers were jointly charged by the Beasts of Nurgle and the Great Unclean One, while the Nurglings saw a snack and wandered away from the seemingly invincible Dwarf. On the other flank the Soul Grinder and the Plague Bearers charged the Rangers. Both combats went as expected and the Dwarfs were cut down through a combination of close combat and fleeing. In the final Dwarfen turn the Hero aimed his pistols at the Beasts of Nurgle and rolled two misses! With that the light of day faded from the field and the few remaining Dwarfs snuck away into the night.

Well, this game went was worse for the Dwarfs as the casualties they caused were to be measured in models, not units. My buddy was pushing the Soul Grinder and he claimed I told him it had a 4+ armor save when it actually has a 5+ armor save but I’m going to blame that on the fog of war, or Tzeentchian trickery! It sounds like that single pip could have been the difference between the Soul Grinder living or dying at the end of the game but that is a small consolation to the Dwarfs this time around. My buddy has decided to get back to the painting table so we don’t need to play the same game again, I’m going to hold him to that!
