After a few months of almost being completed, I finally finished my downed Aquila lander terrain piece. I did not like how the main fuselage was open so you could see the table below. I decided I needed to fill that area in with something. Initially, I tried rolling some green stuff onto a tech deck style mold, and was going to mount that on some foam core. I didn’t have enough green stuff, And the details were super soft so I decide to pick up some plastic card diamond plate. The plastic card also had the benefit of not raising the terrain off the table, so the piece could still sit flush.

I’m very happy with how the piece came out, I think it will look great on any science fiction board!

I also put a little ballast on the inside of the main fuselage which helped to give the impression of the shuttle crashing.

As I have never done a pin wash with oils before this piece also earned me a square on my bingo board. This time last year I was a lot further along, I better start paying attention if I’m going to complete even one row this year!
