Product Review – GF9 – Gothic Sector Battlefield in a Box – Second Wave

After picking up the first wave of the new GF9 Gothic Sector Battlefield in a Box and really liking what I saw I knew I had to get the rest of the set. The second wave was released so I had my local shop put it aside for me. This product has been out for about two weeks, unfortunately, I was stuck at work and unable to get to the shop the first week it was released. Sure work lets me buy cool stuff, but is it worth it? Well, looking at this awesome set of terrain I can gladly say maybe.

These pieces were secured by even more bubble wrap than the first set! The Machine Cult pad was secured to a piece of cardboard. Everything but a piece of the Machine Cult pad came safely and without damage, more on that further down the review.

The Legion Machine Cult comes in two pieces. The large pad, and the spire. Once again all the pieces reviewed are cast in a heavy plaster like material which, while overall sturdy feels like it could be susceptible to chipping if dropped from any distance. Interestingly enough the tracks for the spire antenna appear to be cast in some sort of rubber. Sadly, the two pieces at the end of the track came broken off when I opened the box. They were wrapped in a different level of bubble wrap than the rest of the piece so I’m sure this was just a failed prayer to the machine spirit of the bubble wrap machine. I’ll reach out to GF9 and see if they can replace the piece. If not it will glue right back together so I’m not overly concerned. The spire antenna stays on the tracks by friction which allows it to be adjusted to different positions depending on where you want it, and can be removed for easy storage. The Legion Machine Cult retails for $30 USD. This is a great piece of terrain if you want to break up the battle field without adding blocking terrain.

The Gothic Sector Legion Bunker comes in one piece and retails for $30 USD. It takes up a decent amount of real estate on the board and would be easy enough to transport. I’d love to see Gale Force 9 release a bunker based on this design but with a roof and full walls, but I get this is designed as a Dawn of War homage piece. If it was a full bunker it would have more utility than just completing the set.

The Gothic Sector Legion Arsenal comes in five pieces. You can glue on the supports or use the included magnets. I like the magnets as it allows safer transport if you decide to do that. You can also take the supports off to represent damage if you decide to play a scenario involving destroying the arsenal! This is a fun piece that blocks line of sight and could be used as a bunker in a bunker assault mission. Of the three this sets that came out this wave this is probably my favorite. The Legion Arsenal retails for $30 USD.

Once again the Dark Angels of two editions, 30 years apart advance through this wave of Gothic Sector terrain. As you can see the terrain works for both the 2nd Edition scale and the newer Primaris marines.

What do you think? Should I pick up wave three? Let’s be honest, I’m sure I will!

If you haven’t seen Wave 1, or Wave 3 check them out! I also reviewed the Epic scale Mundus Imperialis!
