I have wanted to try pin washing for a long time so when I started painting this old piece of 40K terrain I realized it was the perfect piece. If you’re not familiar with pin washing, you apply a gloss coat over the item you’re trying to pin wash, and thin an oil paint with mineral spirits. This helps the oil paint flow into the cracks and crevices, generally leaving the raised area paint free. For my first attempt, I think it worked out pretty well, although a friend told me I would’ve had an easier time if I paint even further. It was a fun technique, I will definitely take his advice and try again!

Have you ever done an oil pin wash? Do you have any advice for me? If so, share in the comments below!
