Gaming Night June 9, 2024 – Blood Bowl!

Tonight we got two Blood Bowl games, one featuring the WAAGHter Dogs versus the Green Terror, and the other Voldo’s Vivisectors versus the Vampire Counts of the League Commissioner! Who won you ask? We’ll get back to you after a word from our sponsor, Todd and his delicious Corned Beef and Cabbage!

No love was lost in the Black Orc versus Orc Bowl!

The Skaven versus the Vampire Counts was a super exciting game of Blood Bowl which ultimately ended up being decided by the great Nuffle! All hail Nuffle!

The rats led 2-1 going into the half using the famed Skaven cage method. What? Skaven using a cage? What has happened in the world in which Skaven are using a cage? Well, the cages didn’t last long but they helped the Gutter Runners get close enough to the opposing end zone and score. It’s not crazy if it works!

Getting the ball back in turn 8 of the first half the Vampire Player attempted to injure as many Skaven as possible including launching the Vargheist at Voldo himself! Even with frenzy the Vargheist was only able to knock Voldo down, and while every Skaven on the line was knocked down that was the worst result any of the rats recieved!

During the first half the Skaven were lucky enough to win two free re-rolls due to their purchase of an assistant coach via inducement. They ended up not using these re-rolls, but by winning they denied the re-rolls to the Vampire Counts who could have made some real good use out of them as the commissioner needed to re-roll his Bloodlust roll on more than one occasion. Bloodlust would come back and haunt the commissioner late in the game! The Vampires received the ball and scored and were answered by the Skaven bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of the Skaven. The Vampires had three turns to march down the field and were doing a heck of a job of doing so. I didn’t think I’d be able to stop them and was already forecasting a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation. However, I finally realized how fast the Vampires were and didn’t overcommit to one side of the field. This allowed me to box in the Vampire throwers and their runner. Down to one re-roll the the vampire thrower with the ball rolled a 1 for Bloodlust and needed to use a re-roll on their turn 7. An attempt to dodge away from a Skaven in contact failed and with no more re-rolls the ball bounced out of bounds and was promptly thrown into the endzone where it came to rest. Voldo saw an opportunity and scooped the ball up on the Skaven turn 7, ran it up the field to another Gutter Runner and handed it off. That Gutter Runner dodged twice, once into a tackle zone, and ones out and made his way up the board. Two successful go for it rolls took to to a position only the Vargheist could stop him from scoring. Two rounds of three pushes on the Vampire Turn 8, and a successful dodge on the Skaven Turn 8 saw the game go from a probable 3-3 tie to a 4-2 win for the Skaven!

The commissioner was very gracious with the loss. I mentioned Nuffle won me the game but he told me I get the credit because I got the right figures in the right place to cause him to need to dodge in traffic. The final drive was spectacular and earned me a few more experience points but once the ball was lost and Voldo picked it up we didn’t see a way for the Vampires to score.

League Points: Green Terror over the WAAAGHter Dogs 2-0, with the WAAAGHter Dogs picking up a bonus league point for causing three or more casulties. It sounded like the Black Orcs weren’t having much luck with the Troll throwing their Goblin teammates but it was a close game!

Voldo’s Vivisectors won 4-2 and earned an extra league point for scoring three or more points. The Vampire Counts just missed out on a bonus league point by causing casualties on two players, both of which are missing next game.

With that Nuffle Fans another high profile night of Blood Bowl comes to an end! We hope to see you on the pitch soon!
