When I painted my Deathwing Terminators last month for the 40k 2nd Edition Challenge I had a hard time getting to all the details so this month I decided to paint the arms separate from the bodies. In almost thirty years of painting I have never bothered to paint in sub-assemblies. I always reasoned if you can’t get to the detail you won’t be able to see it. While I still see the merit to this argument I really saw the benefit of painting the models in separate pieces and assembling them once painted. I had to touch a few pieces up based on how I attached them to my holder but over all I think it was well worth it. Maybe I should have been doing this for years….

Is there a technique you used later in your hobby career and wished you started earlier? If so please share in the comments!
