Et Sans Resultat Austrian Force Pack

I am a big fan of Et Sans Resultat, the Napoleonic rule set by The Wargaming Company. I have been playing for years and have helped the fine folks who own the company run demo games at the HMGS shows and Adepticon since 2019. I attempted to assemble and paint a French army but the metal reformation areas they carried at the time were so difficult to assemble I almost lost my mind. The release of their new Siocast line piqued my interest as plastics tend to be much easier to assemble, and I was super impressed by the detail of the sculpts. I was gifted the new Austrian Force Pack after helping The Wargaming Factory with demos and sales at Adepticon this year and was excited to get in and take a look at what was included. So without further ado lets take a look!

The front of the box. What can I say? It is a sturdy box with nice color art and it is clearly labeled. A+ for presentation!

The back of the box shows exactly what you get on the inside. The box comes with a full force allowing you to assemble an Austrian ArmeeKorps for 1809. Included is a force commander, two full infantry divisions, a cavalry division, flags and bases, order markers, and the command cards for the units, including a random historical force commander card. Not mentioned on the box is the ESR cheat sheet and a Nappy the Penguin sticker!

The cards are very durable, high quality card and should last you quite a while. The cheat sheet is on thinner paper, but is readily available on the The Wargaming Company website. The flags are a nice bonus, you can find more of these on the company website as well.

The minis, tokens, and bases.

As you can see from the two sprues below there is generally no flash to be cleaned up. (I did find a few stands that had some flash between the legs which was easy enough to clean.) The Siocast material is very flexible so it won’t break when you accidentally brush your figures, and the detail is nice and deep. Even though these are 10mm figures they should paint up very easily!

The objective and order tokens. If you aren’t familiar with the game the orders are not random, those are cubes, not six sided die! Although, that might make an interesting scenario….

The bag of reformation areas splayed out. The flash you see is all on the supports, not the minis themselves!

A cannon, reformation area, and a caisson. These were all way easier to assemble than the old metal versions! Working with the siocast will take some getting used to. When I went to remove the burr where the sprue connected to the tongue of the wagon and the whole thing bent away from me. To prove my earlier point it went right back into place, it was just a little nerve wracking. I wouldn’t do it on purpose, but you can imagine the disaster that would have been with hard plastic or metal.

This Force Box retails for $119.00 USD. I think the figures are terrific and they are enough to get started playing with your friends. I hope to start painting soon, and when I do you know I’ll share some more thoughts with you!

  1. Do you get enough forces in one box to be able to play the game with just those contents? They look really great but the box is so small for $119. I guess its in the same price range as Legions imperialis just without all the flashy GW packaging, but it does seem like less product because of that (facepalm).

    • You get enough for one force, think of this as a single force starter box more than a “complete” game in a box. While the box is small it is packed full of troops. I assembled those few pieces and could barely get the box shut again!

      • There definitely looks like there is a lot of value in the box, I was just curious if it’s positioned as a buy one box and have everything you need for one side type of product. I’m sure it depends on what size games you play. I’ll have to join in some time to see what you guys like about it
