40K 2nd Edition Challenge through the years

As people have been sending me their entries I have seen a number of people from past challenges throwing their hat into the ring once again. As I have spent the last week, compiling entries, and staring at spreadsheets, I haven’t had time to work on any projects on my own and thought you would all like a walk down memory lane as much as I have.

In August, 2020 11 souls completed the first challenge and five of us have been crazy enough to complete all five of the challenges so far. Will all five of us nutters enter and complete Mark VI of the challenge? Time will tell!

Challenge 1 – Final Results

The second challenge showed how popular this event is and had 16 finishers! It was so popular the good doctor had to split each month into two waves! This challenge came right on the heels of the first challenge, in fact by February 20, 2021 the challenge was listed as full booked with Challenge 1 ending January 25, 2021!

Challenge 2 – Final Results

January, 2022 saw the third chapter of our adventure kick off only 4 months after the second challenge ended. Once again contestants were split up into two waves each month based on the order they submitted their entries. Humble to the last the good Doctor would always place his entry last, a tradition I kept for myself in Challenge 5. Although in my case I would have definitely have been last regardless and not just out of kindness….

Challenge 3 – Final Results

The 4th Challenge saw the good Doctor realize it might be worth spacing the challenges out a bit and thus started it up again in January 2023. I think one challenge a year is a nice pace for both painters and the facilitator. I’m not sure I could have kept up his initial breakneck pace! More than anything, I don’t think I could listen to Jon talk about “the next challenge” every six months…. Challenge 4 also saw the introduction of fan based voting for honorifics and two categories of challenges; the painter challenge of 750 points total, and the gamer challenge of 1,500 points. It was also the challenge the Curse of the Space Wolves was finally broken!

Challenge 4 – Final Results

Dr. The Viking took a well deserved break from running these crazy challenges and kindly allowed me to take over the helm. It was sort of a last minute decision and it it helped me kick off this blog. I had been using another platform for the previous four years so there was a bit of a learning curve. Between the last minute decision and the learning curve we kicked off the 5th challenge, or Mark V as it was dubbed, in February 2024. These are the army shots from the 5th army challenge.
